08 Dec Can a BB cream replace foundation?
How to explain what is BB cream? In one bottle you get the benefits of two or three different products. This means that not only do you save time, but you also save money. Although often attributed to the Korean beauty trend, BB creams were actually first developed in Germany by Dr. Christine Schrammek. While we’ve all believed in it for the last few years, the original BB cream by Dr. Schrammek has been around since 1967.
She originally developed it as a means of stopping post-treatment reactions for her patients. BB creams are made with the idea of being used on the skin after sharper treatments, such as peeling and microdermabrasion, due to which the skin became red and inflamed. Instead of applying a heavy foundation, which could make the skin even more irritated and uncomfortable, dr. Schrammek wanted to offer them something that would blur the flaws and give a little coverage, but most importantly, be kind to the skin. That’s how BB cream was born.
Years later, the formula was perfected in South Korea, where K-pop and K-drama stars noted its ability to easily transform skin. After consumers became obsessed with BB creams, the trend headed to Europe and the United States, where it became a major product for beauty and skin.
Three reasons to choose BB cream for your base
BB creams are partly makeup and partly skin care products. Your skin can enjoy the benefits of several products from just one application.
Make-up artist and beauty expert Marija Butković says that BB creams combine the qualities of a tinted moisturizer, with the qualities of an anti-age moisturizer and SPF skin care products.
“Because BB creams can contain a cocktail of beneficial ingredients such as the mineral SPF with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, hyaluronic acid that strengthens the skin, vitamins and antioxidants, you will reduce the products and ingredients applied to the skin and save time,”Marija
Look natural in daylight
The coverage you will get with BB cream is natural and light, never hard or too strong. In addition, you can easily apply BB cream with your fingers, which Marija says allows the product to melt into the skin for flawless makeup application. For those who need more coverage, Marija says BB creams are light enough to go under a layer of regular foundation.
Cover flaws and imperfections, without irritation
If you have acne-prone skin and need to cover up blemishes, Marija says your skin could benefit from BB cream. Soothing minerals often found in BB cream formulations are useful even for treating blemishes. “Acne-prone skin will also benefit from a lighter-textured product that allows the skin to breathe, as well as a shorter list of ingredients,” she adds. A typical drugstore brand of BB cream can contain up to 40 different ingredients, better than the 70+ ingredients that a separate moisturizer, foundation and sunscreen can contain.
If you want to cut down on skin care products in your morning routine, consider trying BB creams. Otherwise known as a tinted cream or balm for imperfections, BB cream is a makeup product formulated with skin care benefits that include hydration, anti-aging properties and SPF protection.

If you do not like to apply foundation, then tinted moisturizer is a great choice. In doing so, I advise you to choose the one that suits your skin type. The only disadvantage of tinted creams is their insufficient ability to cover major skin imperfections. Have in mind that foundations are not necessarily heavy either. Nowadays, it’s difficult to choose, because the offer is infinitely large. Mineral foundations are also extremely popular at the moment.
What is BB cream?
BB cream is a basic alternative that offers light coverage while being good on the skin. It can improve a few different things, depending on what you’re looking for: imperfection balm, beauty balm, liquid powder base… In reality, while all of these names are correct, beauty balm is probably the most accurate description of what it does. Between smoothing, blurring, protection and tinting, it is a truly powerful tool.
The cream experienced its greatest popularity in 1985 after its introduction in the South Korean and Japanese markets, where the porcelain complexion is highly valued.
Although this cream could not be bought on our market until recently, today you can choose between several manufacturers. Care should be taken to ensure that your skin is either dry, oily or sensitive. Proper choice of cream will also contribute to less secretion of oil from enlarged pores.
I definitely advise you to go to a dermatologist who will, in a professional way, clean clogged pores. Your habit of daily facial cleansing and makeup removal is to be commended. Since our face is covered with makeup most of the day, we need to allow the skin to “breathe” at least overnight.
